Our story
The aim of the Cinema and Social Justice project is primarily to research the ways in which various social issues are portrayed in the cinema. The team aim to demonstrate how useful film can be when teaching others about these social issues.
Our approach
This booklet project has re-opened the discussion about social issues in society and the ways in which film can spread awareness and information. This booklet has been handed out to undergraduate students across film, media, literature, media production, sociology and more. It is being shared at open days and is used in visits to FE colleges. This booklet, and the fuller live list which can be found on our website will boost students’ understanding of and interest in the intersections between cinema and social justice but will hopefully be a catalytic spark which will fuel research into cinema’s role in these social justice issues.

“The collection helps us to better understand modern and historical queer experiences through cinema.”
